Fall 2024 Artist in Residency: Kathryn Waller

"Everyone has a story to tell and capturing those moments really motivates me to keep going." - Kathryn Ann Waller
Tell us your story in your own words
"Photography has always been my passion, blending my love for art, travel, and connecting with people. I started small, capturing moments of family, friends, and the beautiful surroundings of my hometown, Savannah, GA. When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me by the water, taking long walks with my dog, or enjoying time with friends. Photography has given me a unique perspective on the world, and I’ve cherished every moment of the journey!"
What inspires you?
"Nature and the water are my biggest inspirations. There’s something so grounding for me about being by the water. I also draw inspiration from the people I meet through my work and my family. Everyone has a story to tell and capturing those moments really motivates me to keep going. And, of course, travel is a huge part of my creative process. Experiencing new places, cultures, and perspectives always gives me fresh ideas."

Tell us about your ideal Sunday.
"My ideal Sunday starts with a long, peaceful walk by the water with my dog. After that, I’d grab a coffee and spend the morning reading—maybe a book, my favorite Substacks, or diving into some celebrity gossip on Reddit, depending on my mood! In the afternoon, I’d hang out with friends, either exploring a new spot or just relaxing together. As the day winds down, I’d make time for a little creative work, whether it’s editing photos or brainstorming future projects. I’d wrap it all up with a good home-cooked meal, the perfect way to end the day."

What is your perfect Sunset?
"The perfect sunset is one that feels like it lasts forever. It’s vibrant, with deep pinks, oranges, and purples reflecting off the water. There’s a soft breeze, and I’m surrounded by nature, either by the beach or somewhere calm and peaceful. When I am watching a sunset, I am able to feel the most present."

What are you most excited to archive this fall + beyond?
"This fall, I’m really excited to use my archive to document some professional and personal moments! I can’t wait to museboard with photos and memories from my upcoming shoots and special moments with my friends and family. I love scrapbooking and making vision boards, so I’m also looking forward to documenting my goals and dreams for the next chapter of my life.
Tell us about your fall bucket list.
"I’m planning to visit a few coastal towns I’ve been wanting to explore for a while, where I can unwind and, of course, capture some beautiful photos. On a personal note, a few of my best friends are getting married, so I’m really looking forward to celebrating with them and spending quality time surrounded by friends!"
