Summer 2024 Artist In Residency: Aubrey Elizabeth

"Much of my current story really began in high school - it’s when I met my husband and got my first camera on my 16th birthday. Though I went to college for business and worked in the fashion industry for a few years, my little business was always a dream I held close.
While it may have taken me several years to come to the conclusion that photographing love, documenting stories, and connecting with people creatively is what I’m meant to do, I couldn't be more grateful that now, it’s what I get to do every day.
I grew up in a small farm town in Pennsylvania and I now live with my husband and our two cats, Basil and Clove, in Philadelphia." - Aubrey Elizabeth

What inspires you?
"Sunlight, nature, kindness, all things vintage and nostalgic."

How do you spend your Sunday?
"As a wedding and lifestyle photographer, Sundays are usually my only days off. I love being able to spend Sundays at home with my husband, whether we’re working on a house project (most of the time) or exploring our Philadelphia neighborhood together. A good Sunday cleaning and reset of the house always feels good, followed by a slow evening outside in our newly-finished courtyard and backyard."

What is your perfect Sunset?
"Sunsets always make me happy, regardless of where I am - our Philadelphia backyard, the rolling hills and wispy fields of our hometown, on the beach with my family in Cape May - but I can promise you it will always include sitting outside next to my husband, possibly a cocktail in hand, talking about our days, creative ideas, and dreams for the future."

What are you most excited to archive?
"I am so excited to archive this summer! I have never been much of a journalist (journaler?), even though I love writing, but I think the concept of being able to utilize photos and the many different types of pages in the Archive will guide my thoughts in a creative yet organized way."

Tell us about your summer bucket list!
"Summer is my favorite season by far and we have lots of beach days, family time, and long weekend trips that I can’t wait to document. I’m looking forward to slowing down a bit more and having productive work days, so I can enjoy my evenings in the backyard. Lots of ice cream dates, morning runs, cucumber-lime cocktails, and hosting pretty dinners for our friends. I love all of the “classic” summer activities and live all winter long for these days!"
